New Year's Organization

Seems that the new year is all about organization. Good thing, because I seriously need to do some organizing over here!

So I've decided to do a few things differently this year.
  1. No more giant 'organize it this weekend' projects. They don't get finished, and they just add to the clutter in the house. Instead I'll focus on making small bits of progress daily.
  2. Organize the cookbooks and recipes so that I can easily find what I'm looking for. How? I'm starting a recipe box--no, I'm not going to take the time to copy down a recipe from a cookbook, why would I? Instead I'm going to simply take an index card, put the name of the dish, the name of the cookbook, and the page number on the card. Then the card gets filed in the recipe box under the proper category. Easy-peasy, and by the end of the year I'll have a pretty solid recipe box.
  3. Collect all my stash into a few containers. This is the first step toward actually organizing my stash. So I've dedicated 4 big plastic bins to stash--one for charts, one for magazines, one for fabric, and one for floss. Whenever I find something stash related--into the bin it goes. (I've got stash stuck everywhere in this house--just finding it is an improvement!)
So, what are your organization ideas for 2012?

Brilliant idea about the index for your recipes.

most of my stash is in one room, but all over even though i have some things organized. I like your idea, i think i'll "use" it too. I can set up containers in my room and just put things in there and as I get a chance put a few away at a time where they need to be, that way I can at least know what bin a certain type of item might be! Thanks for the idea.
I love your recipe idea too. I don't have very many i use, but I do have a box and they are just thrown in there, i think I will start going through that too and when I do use one either put it on the proper index card and file it or just file it.
