Wildlife

My Christmas cactus needs water--badly--but it's going to be a few more weeks before I can water it. Why?

Not because of this little fellow, he'd love the water!

But I don't think these little babies would appreciate it as much!

Yep, baby birds. I was getting ready to water the big Christmas cactus I have on the front porch when I noticed that it had accumulated plenty of dead grass and leaves. I reached in to scoop out the mess, and noticed a little yellow/orange beak! Oh, no! It's not debris, it a nest!

I tucked the nest back into the pot as best as I could, checked to see that all the little beaks were moving, and then snapped a quick picture. I'm avoiding the front porch for at least 2 weeks--I don't want to disturb the little family again.

So then I went to check on my tomato plant, and I found this fellow:

I quickly cut off that little stub of a branch he was on, but I lost him...so I've dusted the plant (and the ground) with insecticide--hopefully that's the last I'll see of him!
