Bastille Day

To be honest, it really isn't something I celebrate. The French Revolution wasn't the same as the American Revolution, however convenient is might be to consider them as identical in both intent and outcome. This isn't the time or place for the discussion of such a heavy topic so that's all I'm going to say on the subject.

On Sunday my dear husband and I traveled to New Orleans to participate in the Bastille Day celebrations being held by the French Market and the Joan of Arc project. One of the activities was a costume contest where the participants were asked to come costumed as their favorite French character living or dead, real or fictional.

My darling husband portrayed Napoleon, no surprise there. No one else in the contest could hold a candle to him as you can see:

The day included the singing of The Marseillaise and then cake was served to everyone attending. Where else can you be served cake by Marie Antoinette and Joan of Arc, except New Orleans?

We brought home a nice goodie bag of treats from a neat little Decatur Street shop as our winnings:

I didn't costume this year--next year I'm going as Madame Defarge and my husband will be the photographer!
